High school comedies have been hilarious on the big screen since the 1980s. But nothing could (and perhaps never) top the popularity of American pie. This loud comedy turned into a massive franchise. American pie is basically a teen sex comedy that instantly became a huge hit with its audience. Beginning in 1999, the film series led to four sequels and five spinoffs over a span of 23 years.

American Pie (1999)

The very first film in the series, American pie paved the way for a whole new school of high school comedy. It is also the first movie you must watch before watching anything in this series. This film features Jim, Kevin, Oz, Finch and Stifler, Jim’s father, Noah (Eugene Levy), and Stifler’s mother (Jennifer Coolidge). among a few other characters who later became constants for the next three sequels.

American pie follows the five high school friends who make a pact to lose their virginity before they all graduate from high school and go to college. Except for Stifler, who claims to have lost his virginity before his friends. Thus, they plan to go to the ball with their respective girlfriends to carry out their mission. The series is full of funny and silly mistakes and a few unfortunate events.

American Pie 2 (2001)

The second film in the series, american pie 2, follows the same group of friends on another adventure while on summer vacation.

Jim, Kevin, Oz, Finch and Stifler have been away at school, away from their gang for a year now. So for summer vacation, they decide to get together at a rented beach house on Lake Michigan and throw the ultimate party of the season. But as you would expect from this group, the plan doesn’t go well and they end up in trouble. Between seducing the women of a neighboring house and mistaking super glue for lube, this film takes the sex-comedy antics expected of the first film up a notch.

american pie 2 also features the same main cast as the first and is directed by James B. Rogers.

American Wedding (2003)

For the third installment of the series, Jim, Stifler, Kevin and Finch reprise their roles, along with Jim’s girlfriend, Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) and her father, Noah.

Jim and Michelle, who have been dating since high school, are about to get married. But the story centers on Stifler, who plans an outrageous bachelor party for Jim, albeit with all his antics. As everyone, including Jim and Michelle’s friends and families, gather for the big day, things take a hilarious turn. This installment of the franchise tests Jim and Stifler’s friendship in a more intense way. The sex-comedy antics typical of the biggest franchise are also offset by more serious themes around marriage.

American Reunion (2012)

The last film in the series, American meeting gathers the gang of boys one last time. The story takes place a decade after Jim and Michelle’s wedding, just like the film’s release.

The story follows the five friends meeting at their high school reunion and discovering that despite the distance and time, their friendship still lives on. Although they’re all responsible adult men at this point, the boys try to relive their high school days with one last hurray. But nothing is what it was when they were in high school and things take a weird turn.

“American Pie Presents” Movies in Chronological Order

Between american pie 2 and American meeting, four spin-off films were released under the franchise between 2005 and 2009, with a final film released in 2020. These five films have an all-new cast and creative team with some of the former cast members returning to the same roles. For example, Eugene Levy continues his role as Noah Levenstein for the first four films. You can watch all five movies in the following order or you can watch one of them as a standalone movie.

American Pie Presents: Band Camp (2005)

The first in the spin-off series, this film focuses on Stifler’s younger brother, Matt (Tad Hilgenbrinck) who is sent to group camp for the summer after becoming a riot in high school. At camp, things get interesting when he meets his childhood sweetheart.

American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile (2006)

This film also features a member of Stifler’s family, his cousin, Erik (white jeans). Erik seems to have carried on his infamous older cousin’s legacy and plans to lose his virginity in a race where people run around naked.

American Pie Presents: Beta House (2007)

This story sees Erik return, but this time as a freshman. This film also features another cousin of Stifler, Dwight (Steve Talley), who leads the brotherhood where Erik also engages and continues with their shenanigans. But when a group of geeks try to shut down the brotherhood, the cousins ​​will do anything, however savage, to keep their brotherhood alive.

American Pie Presents: The Book of Love (2009)

The plot of this film follows three virgin high school students at East Great Falls High who land on a tattered sex manual from the school library, compiled by the students for over forty years. With incomplete information and sexual advice, the three find themselves in crazy and stupid situations, trying to lose their virginity.

American Pie Presents: Girl’s Rule (2020)

Moving away from boys and their wild ways with sex, this ninth and final installment in the American pie franchise sees a girl gang. During their senior year of high school at East Great Falls High, five friends come together to channel their girl power and get what they want and who they want before they graduate.
