Groupe ADF expands its boilermaking and inaugurates its welding school » PACA’s economic and political letter

ADF Group today inaugurated a new boilermaking hall on its La Feuillane site in Fos-sur-Mer.

Since 2018, this site has already been home to a High Added Value Boilermaking unit. The new hall will be dedicated to the manufacture of sheet metal devices intended in particular for the nuclear sector. Extending over 800 m2, the construction of this hall obtained the support of the Metropolis of Aix Marseille and the territory of Istres Ouest Provence.

Ten jobs created

The extension is accompanied by an increase in the workforce of around ten people, including boilermakers, welders, technicians and welding engineers.

Boiler-mounted, high-tech devices intended for the nuclear industry

The new hall allows Groupe ADF to increase the site’s production capacity by 30% and to improve its storage conditions in accordance with the requirements of its customers. This increase was made necessary by the ramping up of the Hinkley Point EPR project and the visibility of the Sizewell EPR for which Groupe ADF has been working for several years. The devices produced, such as pressure vessels for nuclear power plants, will benefit from automated welding means.

Following on from the construction of 80 tanks for the Flamanville EPR nuclear island, ADF Group is continuing its partnership with EDF by carrying out studies, supplying and manufacturing 172 tanks and demineralizers for the 2 units of the Hinkley Point EPR in Great Britain. Extending this cooperation, Groupe ADF and EDF have just signed a mutual commitment to duplicate the same contract for the Sizewell EPR.

Nuclear power, a historic activity of ADF Group

Leaders in the nuclear sector have been calling on Groupe ADF for 50 years for its demonstrated technical expertise in the fields of welding, boilermaking, piping and rotating machinery, which are critical elements in this very demanding industry. From the construction of Gravelines in 1974 to the EPR2 in 2021, Groupe ADF has been involved in a large number of projects for major players such as EDF, Orano, Technicatome, etc.

“The political situation and the ecological emergency make nuclear power more necessary than ever. We are happy to increase our production in the service of this sector in full reconfiguration. This new hall will allow us to continue to serve our customers to help them face the challenges that arise. adds Marc Eliayan, President of ADF Group.

The ADF Group welding school inaugurated on this occasion

To ensure that the best workers will bring all the expertise to its customers in the nuclear industry, Groupe ADF has created, in partnership with Pôle Emploi and the Institut de Soudure. a welding school in Rognac in the Bouches-du-Rhône. In conjunction with the “Trajectoire Gagnante vers les professions de l’industrie (TGMI)” training course, this school is aimed at anyone wishing to train in the welding professions. To enter the course, prior knowledge of industrial trades is not mandatory. The school is accessible to ADF Group employees, but also to job seekers eligible for a technical position on industrial sites.

With this school, Groupe ADF wishes to create an “initial training course for the welder trade while ensuring the skills development of its teams” with training in specific welding techniques. Indeed, the objective is to recruit interns as soon as their internship ends. The first training session, a pilot case, took place from February to July 2022. 4 out of 6 students, or 70% of the students, managed to finish the course and were hired on a permanent contract.

“Faced with the lack of welders, we have chosen to create an internal school which allows us to broaden our field of search for candidates whose training in welding techniques is no longer a prerequisite. On the other hand, we keep strict behavioral and interpersonal skills criteria as well as a motivation assessment for the sector and for learning. » adds Patrice Amanatiou, Manager of the One Training Institute of ADF Group
