(REGFLASH) Pescara, 16 Nov. – A series of initiatives shared between the Region, Local Health Authority, Police Headquarters, Coni and the Regional School Office to raise awareness among citizens on the issue of pathological addictions. The first Regional Day on Pathological Addiction is celebrated tomorrow in Abruzzo, established last June by the Regional Observatory, a body set up by decree of the President of the Region to monitor the initiatives put in place pursuant to regional law 37 of 2020. The law aims at prevention and treatment of pathological addictions, both from substances and behavioral, in order to safeguard and protect the people who are affected by them, with particular reference to the weakest and most vulnerable sections of the population. The aim is to avoid an excessive fragmentation of the interventions, with an intervention model coordinated between the various actors involved: from the local health authority employee services to the regional health and social departments, up to the third sector, school, sport, to therapeutic communities, to the forensic world.
MARSILIO, PILOT PROJECT. “We are the first Region to have approved a ‘framework’ law on pathological addictions – began the President Marcus Marsilius -. Furthermore, the first to have set up a regional observatory that brings together various players who are confronted from different points of view: from the health sector to actions aimed at repressing crimes that coagulate around addictions. It is a pilot experience and tomorrow we are celebrating a day aimed at raising awareness among schools and young people. I hope it can help the citizens of Abruzzo to deal with a phenomenon, unfortunately, present in the area; we have worrying data recorded, in particular, in the area of the seismic crater – Marsilio observed again -. The use of gambling, for example, has been one of the most widespread addictions among fragile subjects who experience difficult psychological and social moments”. Addictions include gambling disorder, addictions to substances such as alcoholic beverages , tobacco, psychotropic substances and narcotics, the “new substances”, painkillers, technological addictions from the internet, social networks, smartphones, video games, videopornography and other behavioral addictions as well as compulsive shopping and hypersexuality. With this law and thanks to the activities of the “Observatory, Abruzzo is at the forefront in Italy in prevention, treatment and rehabilitation programs.
