The City Council of Salamanca joins the celebration of the European Mobility Week from September 16 to 22 with a program of face-to-face activities, after two editions mainly online due to the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, that seeks to raise public awareness about the benefits of using sustainable transport.

The Councilor for Public Works, Fernando Carabias, points out that this year, under the motto ‘Better connections. Combine and move’, the purpose of raising public awareness about the negative consequences of irrational car use in the city, both for public health and the environment, and the benefits of using sustainable modes of transport is maintained , such as the urban bus, the bicycle, the scooter or the promotion of walking routes. For this reason, once again the educational and pedagogical activities aimed at all ages stand out, to contribute to a healthier city with a better quality of life for its inhabitants.

In the first place, as explained by the Councilor for the Environment, Miryam Rodríguez, children’s activities stand out throughout the week. The Municipal Libraries will carry out Centers of Interest for Sustainable Mobility with the general motto of ‘Reading without fumes: Readings that sustain the planet’. Each library will carry out activities according to the following titles: ‘Train Travelers’ in the Torrente Ballester library; ‘Readings to the train…!!’ in the Gabriel y Galán library,+; ‘Come to the library by bicycle’ at the CMI in Plaza de Trujillo; ‘A little while on foot and another walking’ in La Vega; ‘Next stop, the library’ in Vidal; and ‘Better without smoke’ at the CMI of Vistaheremosa.

One of the novelties of this edition of the Mobility Week is the extension of the exhibition of clean vehicles in Zamora street with the Plaza de los Bandos, which will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday 16, Monday 19 , Tuesday 20, Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 September. Different brands will exhibit electric and hybrid cars, but you can also see electric motorcycles and bicycles.

On Friday 16 and Saturday 17, the activity ’24 hours of cycling’ will take place, organized by Amigos de la Bici, with cycling tours through Salamanca and its alfoz, for which prior registration is required on the website www.amigosdelabici.es. From Friday afternoon, around 7:00 p.m., until Saturday afternoon, the activity center will be set up in the Parque de La Alamedilla, on the pedestrian promenade in front of the sports hall, from where the routes will start. .

On Sunday the 18th, an Open Day will be held at the Salamanca Automotive History Museum and in the afternoon one of the activities with the greatest participation will return, the Bike Day, organized by the Promesal Cycling Club. At 5:00 p.m., the participants will leave the Plaza Mayor to walk the streets of the city to the Elio Antonio de Nebrija Park, where they will carry out various activities and gifts will be given to people who have previously registered for Decathlon. .

On Monday the 19th, one of the activities with a growing demand during the last editions will take place in the Espacio Joven (José Jauregui street 16), the ‘Practical bike maintenance workshop’ carried out by the Friends of the Bike at 6:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. To guarantee its correct development, prior registration is required on the website www.amigosdelabici.es.

Following the line of a Week of Educational Mobility, on Tuesday 20th there will be a traffic education activity for schoolchildren, organized with the Local Police and with the collaboration of the Salamanca City of Culture and Knowledge Foundation and SALenBICI. Two groups of schoolchildren, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., will receive theoretical and practical advice at the Salamanca Local Police offices on Avenida de La Aldehuela road safety. Later, they will take a bike ride along the bike path to the Roman Bridge and back so that they can put into practice the indications and instructions received.

On Wednesday 21, for its part, the Teatro Liceo will host at 12:00 noon the performance of the play ‘Mi ciudad’ by the company Katua & Galea, aimed at schoolchildren and carried out with the collaboration of the Salamanca City Foundation. Culture and Knowledge.

In the afternoon, another of this year’s novelties is the activity ‘Mobility on skates’, organized by the P Skating club for children from 5 years old. Between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., activities will be carried out on the sports courts of the Parque de los Jesuitas. It will be mandatory to wear skates, know how to skate, helmet and protections (hands, elbows and knees). Participants can register through the website www.pdepatinaje.com

Finally, on September 22, Car Free Day, urban buses will be free for another year. In addition, during the morning, several actors from the Kamaru theater company will tour various bus stop areas in the downtown area performing dramatized animations to encourage the use of this vehicle, which in 2022 is 27% higher than last year, approaching pre-pandemic user figures, and whose fleet in Salamanca consists of a total of 62 vehicles, of which 73% are gas-powered.

Mobility Week will conclude on the afternoon of the 22nd with the activity ‘Children take to the streets’, with inflatable games for children from 5:00 p.m. in the Elio Antonio de Nebrija Park and the theatrical performance ‘Man who orchestras’ at 8:00 p.m.
