The Democratic Party looks to the vote: «Terni is in disarray. We build an alternative »

by Fra. Tor.

«The center-right’s city project has been the great absence of recent years. Just as absent was the tension and the design dimension. This absence has put the city in a floating condition and made it more fragile. Participation and public debate were also absent, evident signs of a closed and restricted way of managing city relations. The spectacle that the citizens witnessed was disheartening: 32 changes of jacket in the city council in 4 years and 6 changes of the council which denote the absence of a common project for Terni. All this has contributed to dropping the city to 82nd place for protests, to the bottom for inflation from energy costs, to 88th for extraordinary Cig, to 90th for drug-related crimes, to 103rd for ratio of active to inactive, to 82nd for public lighting and 69th for sportsmanship index». Starting from these data, on Saturday morning in the council chamber of Palazzo Spada, the Terni Pd illustrated the ‘Plan of ideas’: the main contents of the draft programmatic document for the spring administrations, which in the coming weeks will be shared with the city .

«Building an alternative»

Terni’s Democratic Party intends to “build a credible alternative to the current administration” and is convinced that “a city like Terni must be put in a position to heal the great critical issues and fractures that concern it, to seize and exploit the great opportunities offered from the era in which we live and to face the great challenges that await it. To do this we need courage, planning, long-term vision and faith in progress and in the construction of a new horizon that goes beyond the reality of Terni, Umbria and the national borders themselves. We want Terni to be a protagonist in the new modern Europe, one of solidarity, unity, collective effort, the Green New Deal and the Next Generation EU. Indeed, Terni is indeed a provincial city, but it is also characterized by the presence in its territory of multinationals that are affected by global dynamics that must be studied and oriented in order to create wealth and development, not only for our city but for the whole surrounding area”.

Inclusion and social cohesion

«Making this effort will be a major challenge, but it will certainly be easier if we manage to exploit the versatility and great spirit of adaptation historically demonstrated by our community, which has allowed Terni to still be one of the 50 largest Italian cities today and to be the only reality in the country that has not paid a price of radical depopulation for deindustrialization and the transition to the tertiary sector. The key concept to which we refer is therefore that of sustainable growth and a technological-environmental revolution for Terni from the point of view of production equipment, mobility, infrastructures and services. In fact, sustainable development means growth, new jobs, safeguarding the environment and citizens’ health, fighting the climate crisis and improving the quality of life. This cannot fail to be accompanied by adequate training and research centers such as the University and related departments and it cannot be done without having a deep faith in the future and in the great possibilities that technological development can deliver us, think of the digitization of services ). Quality of life as a fundamental objective therefore, but also as an objective to be pursued by everyone. Inclusion, social cohesion and the reduction of inequalities are fundamental objectives to be achieved, because there is no real progress if it is not for everyone”.

«Bringing services closer to citizens»

Terni’s Cemocratic Party «can be progressive in practice by imagining and making possible a smarter and greener Terni and aiming towards a decisive sustainable development, on new technologies and on a marked ecological transition in today’s European reference framework, having as objective final is to provide more opportunities to those who live there. The picture just described must then be declined with a view to an increasingly marked proximity policy, which brings services closer to citizens and which creates a capillary network capable of qualifying Terni as a polycentric city and a point of reference for a new system that puts in synergy the municipalities and the numerous realities of Umbria and central Italy».
