The baker makes his best bread, while the shepherds guard the flocks while the carpenters work in their workshops, and all this, to give life to the largest Living Nativity Scene in the province of Valladolid and Castilla y León. Cabezón de Pisuerga is transformed during this Christmas into a spectacular setting to represent the Biblical Bethlehem that gives rise to the birth of Jesus and with it, the arrival of the Magi from the East. And it is that, Cabezón recreates the ancient city of Nazareth in an exciting and masterful way, taking care of every last detail to immerse attendees in a historical event that marks this time of year.

The Cabezón de Pisuerga Living Nativity Scene celebrates its 44th edition at a time when the new generations do their bit to become the protagonists of the greatest Christmas story. Although the birth of Jesus is the center of the story, in each of the town’s stalls the most traditional and Castilian trades are located to envelop us in this monumental Bethlehem. The narrator carries the common thread of the staging while the protagonists give voice to the nine main scenes in just over 50 minutes.

The annunciation, the proclamation of the registration, the arrival of Joseph and Mary in Bethlehem, the Nativity, the Annunciation to the shepherds, the adoration of the shepherds and the different inhabitants of the town, the visit of the Magi to Herod, the adoration of Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar in the portal of Bethlehem and the flight to Egypt. About ninety stubborn neighbors get into the role of the protagonists and recreate Christmas in its greatest splendor. Nobody misses the appointment, carpenters, shepherds, teachers, butchers, bakers, soldiers, and of course, Jesus, Mary and Joseph accompanied by the angel and Their Majesties from the East.

This festival, declared of Regional Tourist Interest since 2004, has been taking place since 1978 and in recent times it has come to life in a unique and singular place in the Valladolid town, such as the Theme Park that attracts thousands of visitors every year who arrive with curiosity to the top of the hills to see an authentic Living Nativity scene with a Valladolid stamp. This beautiful work can be enjoyed both day and night. The organizers and protagonists say that each moment has its charm and charm, but they emphasize that the night light set with bonfires and torches, as well as the breeze from the mountains, wrap the Bethlehem in a most Christmassy glow.

The Cabezón de Pisuerga City Council together with the Friends of Bethlehem Association turn every year to offer news and changes to attract the largest possible public that on the day of this Monday, December 26, has been the most numerous hanging the full sign in the ‘El Barrero’ park, located on the slopes of the mountain for more than a decade. Within the setting, it is renewed every year, be it a decoration, a new trade, or as in this edition, the construction of a small hermitage to expand the decorative and exhibition space of the sample.

The president of the Amigos del Belén Association and one of the organizers of this stubborn Christmas event, Arturo Fernández, points out that a novelty in 2022 has been the improvement of the actors’ costumes, a very important aspect when it comes to wearing and wearing out the stagings due to the deterioration of the years. «The great decoration of the Cabezón de Pisuerga Theme Park is fixed and work is being done to maintain it throughout the year. The vast majority of the traditional utensils and decorations of the trades are donated by residents of the municipality who lovingly contribute the elements that have been part of their lives, “explains Arturo Fernández in an interview with this medium.

Almost 15,000 people will spend this Christmas at the Cabezón Living Nativity Scene, which gives a special and traditional touch to this time in the town. «The essence of our Living Nativity Scene is the environment and its people who do trades, take care of their animals, in short, it is a staging that those who come to see it consider very worth knowing. It is still the only one in Castilla y León, and the second in Spain, which has been declared of Tourist Interest, for a reason, “he extols.

After the performance, attendees have been able to get closer to see in the front row and immortalize each of the scenarios that have come to life in Cabezón. The carpentry, the oven, the school with the little ones at their desks, Herod’s castle, the winery or the pottery. Neither, of course, can we forget the portal to Bethlehem and the shepherds’ refuge that, with its careful staging, sets the scene for this Bethlehem that also has its mule and herd of sheep. And it is that this monumental and human Bethlehem cannot be perfectly described with words.

Those meticulous details that make the Biblical exhibition special must be seen in first person and you still have the opportunity to do so on the next 2 and 7 January at 7:00 p.m. In addition, throughout the year, the Cabezón de Pisuerga Theme Park opens its doors to hold craft workshops for schoolchildren in the province, as well as traditional games, talks and exhibitions.
