Minister Valditara: “Students have the centrality of the school system”

Even if one of his first political acts was aimed at teachers, with the agreement on the renewal of the contract which will bring each teacher 124 euros of average monthly increases, for Joseph Vallettara “the students have the centrality of the school system”. The purpose of his political action, he tells Il Sole 24 Ore, “is to promote and develop the person of each student. To train citizens who are aware of being part of a community, who are eager to have a future, to realize themselves and why not even get rich”. On the day in which the controversy over socially useful jobs and “on the humiliation of the violent which is a fundamental factor in growth” broke out, the Minister of Education and Merit admits having used an “inadequate” term but confirms the importance of ‘learn to “apologize” and to cultivate the value of humility.

Then he returns to the proposal to tie the citizen’s income to the fulfillment of compulsory education: “The right to study that they didn’t have and through no fault of their own must be returned to these kids. Any provision of a welfare nature in place of the citizen’s income can be granted on condition that, if a boy has stopped at the middle school or even the elementary school, he can complete his compulsory schooling by enrolling in adult education centers , the so-called Cpia that work well, or that, if he already has a diploma, he follows one of the training courses that we will finance with our funds”.

“Because for me – he adds – it is essential to empower young people, to give them a future perspective. To those who have called me ‘inhuman’ I say that it is inhuman not to take care of them. A good parent makes sure these kids have the tools to make it in life or else they risk being drifters. And a good minister is one who cares about the future of their students. I’m posing a serious topic. There are hundreds of thousands of kids who don’t train, don’t study, don’t look for a job. And what do we do?”. Valditara believes that we must act on “two guidelines. The guidance director who allows families to have the necessary information to consciously choose what is best from an educational point of view for their children. And this is why by December you will be sending a letter to all the parents of middle school kids, to let them know what the most interesting professional offers are in their regions and average salaries ”. As for the second director: “It is the tutor teacher who must be included in a team logic. In every school I imagine teachers who are particularly trained from a psychological, pedagogical and even disciplinary point of view who, in cooperation with the teachers of the class, take charge of those children who have more difficulties and also of those who get bored in class because they are so good ones who need other stimuli. All this presupposes the intervention of the psychologist if needed and the responsibility of the families”, concluded Valditara.
