their students as true environmental stewards. There are those who agree that the year 2005 was a turning point in the global public’s awareness of climate change, which is why environmental movements were reinvigorated. That year saw the lightAn inconvenient truth ,

a documentary directed by Davis Guggenheim about former US Vice President Al Gore’s campaign to educate citizens about global warming through a comprehensive exhibit with detailed graphics, flowcharts and illustrations, as well as various photographs of the Earth taken during multiple space missions, where “Earthrise” and “The Blue Marble” are highlighted, noting that these photos radically transformed our way of seeing the planet, helping to ignite modern environmentalism.

Throughout the documentary, the scientific opinion on climate change is discussed, as well as the current and future effects of global warming, and it is emphasized that climate change “is not really a political issue, but rather a moral one”, describing the consequences for which he believes global climate change will occur if the amount of greenhouse gases generated by humans is not significantly reduced in the immediate future.

The film ends with Gore arguing that, if the appropriate actions are taken soon, the effects of global warming can be successfully reversed by releasing less CO2 and planting more vegetation that consumes the existing CO2. Gore asks his viewers to learn how they can help him in these efforts, concluding that: “Each of us is a cause of global warming, but each of us can make choices to change that with the things we buy, the electricity we use, the cars we drive; we can make decisions to bring our individual carbon emissions to zero. The solutions are in our hands, we just have to have the determination to achieve it. We have everything we need to reduce carbon emissions, everything except the political will. But in America, the will to act is a renewable resource.”

In part III of the book “Citizens to the polls! Chronicles of the modern world”, the influential French economist Thomas Piketty addresses under the title “Those who pollute the world must pay” the difficult panorama at a global level in environmental matters. He maintains that according to estimates “a global fund of around 150 million euros per year will have to be allocated to finance the minimum investments necessary to adapt to climate change. If the rich countries are not capable of raising this sum (it represents barely 0.2% of world GDP), it is foolish to try to convince the poor and emerging countries to make additional efforts to reduce their future emissions”.

Specifically, currently the almost 7,000 million inhabitants of the planet emit the equivalent of 6 tons of C02 per year per person.

Missions and its serious commitment to environmental care

Misiones has the highest percentage of biodiversity in Argentina, housing 52% of the flora and fauna existing in the national territory. Its ecosystem allows it to generate pure air, which is essential to mitigate the effects of climate change. The province plays a key role due to its native forest (55% of its area) and its level of afforestation.

In this context, and with the strategic vision of Ing. Carlos Rovira, the Chamber of Representatives of the Province created by law the Secretary of State for Climate Change in the year 2020. The first of its kind in the entire South American continent, which has as the main task to carry out the climate change agenda, its functions being to assist the Governor of the Province in everything inherent to the planning, execution and control of policies, actions and works related to climate change; establish measures to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, promoting sustainable development; promote the development and research of the different forms of protection, as well as articulate actions with the municipalities, other ministries and agencies for the fulfillment of their functions.

At a press conference held last year in the Posadas Municipality building, Mr. Carlos Rovira surprised everyone by revealing that Misiones was going to have the first ecological school in the country, designed for children from early childhood and It would be located next to the Secondary School of Innovation, in the vicinity of the city’s Botanical Garden. “Future generations will be more custodians than we are of what we have. They will be more authentic heirs of this environment that we must leave better than how we received it”, expressed the Conductor of the Front Renovador de la Concordia on that occasion.

And as Rovira usually remarks: “Word committed -deeds-, word fulfilled -action-“, last Thursday the province took another step that demonstrates this strong commitment to the protection of the environment and the iron idea of creating environmental awareness. Unanimously, the House of Representatives approved a law that determines the creation of an Ecological School, whose main objective is the promotion of sustainable development with ecology as its central axis.

The OGA (home in the Guarani language), according to the text of the law, will be “an ecocentric space, within the framework of disruptive teaching and learning methodologies incorporated into the provincial educational system,” according to the rule approved in the ordinary session of the past Thursday.

The project converted into Law was proposed by the provincial deputy and President of the missionary Parliament Carlos Rovira and is part of Disruptive Education, which has as other experiences the Secondary School of Innovation, which focuses on technology and sustainability. In the foundations of the recently sanctioned law, its author mentioned that the initiative

“He comes to propose the union of ecosystems, natural and social, achieving the interaction of the emerging digital ecosystem in favor of natural resources, enriching the public policies that have been implemented in the province for more than a decade.”

In this way, with a strategic, intuitive, comprehensive and prospective vision, Misiones continues to generate the necessary conditions to promote the development of the generation that will save the planet.
