With the purpose of humanizing patient care, the Vithas Valencia 9 de Octubre Hospital continues and resumes in person with free pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation workshops and breastfeeding talks aimed at fathers and mothers, relatives and caregivers of the baby or minor children old.
The CPR workshops: “How would you act if your child stopped breathing?”, aim to teach attendees the basic maneuvers of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and how to act in the event of choking by a foreign body or in a situation of cardiorespiratory arrest. The practical workshop includes an initial theoretical part followed by a practical part of simulations of real situations. Course attendees will practice with dolls the basic maneuvers of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the use of the semi-automatic defibrillator and the action in other situations such as drowning, a seizure or suffocation
The sessions are given by Dr. Sonia Pérez, pediatrician and specialist in neonatology and neonatal intensive care at Hospital Vithas Valencia 9 de Octubre, in which all parents will be able to learn the necessary maneuvers to act in this situation. Dr. Pérez points out that “these maneuvers are very easy to carry out, they are available to anyone and can save the life of a child” and stresses that “it is important that parents attend this type of workshop” and insists on that “the key to avoiding choking in minors is for adults to watch what solid foods they eat and avoid nuts, small fruits, such as grapes, or toys such as car wheels or teddy bear eyes. , among others, that are pieces large enough to obstruct the airways but small enough that they can play with them, put them in their mouths and swallow them”.
On the other hand, the breastfeeding talks: “How to prepare for successful breastfeeding?, will continue to be led by Dr. Rosa Maria Merlos, pediatrician, specialist in neonatology at the Hospital Vithas Valencia 9 de Octubre and IBCLC (Lactation Consultant). Certified). The sessions will take place in the hospital conference room with the aim of protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding by providing pregnant mothers and their partners/relatives with complete and up-to-date information.
As Dr. Merlos explains, “breastfeeding is the natural way of feeding the newborn and young child, as it provides numerous benefits for both the mother and the baby. Exclusive breastfeeding is especially important during the first six months of life, and from that age it is recommended to introduce adequate complementary feeding, which does not replace it, but rather completes it” and underlines the importance of “mothers becoming familiar with breastfeeding from pregnancy, since breastfeeding is not only an instinctive act, but also requires learning, information and, above all, prior observation”.
These actions are integrated into the School for Parents of the Hospital Vithas Valencia 9 de Octubre, as well as the birthing routes for first-time fathers and mothers, which consist of a route that allows future families to discover the areas and facilities in which The birth process will be developed with the aim of resolving your doubts and transmitting to future fathers and mothers the experience, confidence and security of choosing your center to give birth. All the initiatives have managed to become a benchmark thanks to the commitment that it is making and continues to make in favor of humanizing care for its patients.
