The film directed by James Cameron therefore exceeds the one that had occupied the number 1 spot of the year for several months already: Top Gun Maverick and its 6,676,052 admissions! It also beats 2021’s No. 1 Spider-Man No Way Home, which totaled 7,337,229 admissions.

Since its release, Avatar 2 has had an exemplary run, even managing to make more admissions in the 2nd week than in the first. With the period of school holidays and end-of-year celebrations, cinemas are currently full of spectators.

Remember that Avatar The Waterway also crossed the symbolic milestone of one billion at the global box office earlier this week. It is the third film to reach this milestone in 2022 after Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World: The World After.

Thanks to the end-of-year school holidays which boost theater attendance, this sequel could catch up with the 1st opus by the end of January 2023.

Black Panther Wakanda Forever just overtakes Doctor Strange 2, which was still in the Top 5 of the biggest hits of the year not long ago. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness has a total of 3,390,574 admissions as of December 28, 2022.
