Ile d’Yeu. An eclectic and accessible cultural season

Devoted to music for piano and keyboards, the Nantes-based Variations festival, initiated by the Lieu Unique – Nantes contemporary culture center – and the BNP Paribas Foundation, was invited to the Île d’Yeu for a series of free concerts facing the ‘ocean. A declination appreciated by the public, with the presence of a thousand people, which launches under beautiful auspices the cultural season.

To emphasize local artists and residency releases, this season will be eclectic with the concert of Dystopik (punk rock) opening for Sheriff (alternative rock) on November 19; setting to music and performing the book Skin to Skin by Clément Bertrand (February 11); a Purple concert (psychedelic rock) on March 4; a play by the company Limitrophe (June 3), the confession of a former president who dragged his country to the edge of the abyss; the Well Quartet concert (offered to subscribers) on July 26, musicians who write, with four hands, four voices and four strings, their own repertoire of songs, between classical, jazz, rock and chanson. But, first, the young public will be spoiled, with Jemima + Johnny, a film concert at Ciné Islais (school screenings) on Monday 3 October, designed and imagined by the Ballon Rouge team. On December 3, children and their parents can let loose during the Bouskidou rock ball.

No price change

Aware of the problems linked to inflation, the municipality wants to make the shows accessible to everyone. It therefore decided not to change the prices: €30 for three shows, then decreasing prices; €15 for the unemployed, students and 16-18 year olds, even this year offering a €15 fee to recipients of social minima for all shows. We welcome this proactive effort by elected officials who wish to promote access for allunderlines Judith Le Ralle, cultural assistant.

Concerts for nursing home residents

The culture on the island is not limited to the programming at the Casino. Every first Tuesday of each month, free concerts are organized for residents of accommodation establishments for dependent elderly people (Ehpad) and their families with Les Beaux mardis: Barbara Meunier on September 6; Niko Guitar on October 4; Bchaduo on November 2; Clement Bertrand on December 6.

500 books for the future library

But the big project in progress is the construction of the cultural center of Petit-Chiron. While waiting for its opening, the Ponant library is looking for volunteers for the permanence and the cover of the books. Indeed, 500 new books have been ordered for the future library.

Finally, Judith Le Ralle would like to point out the quality of the programming at Ciné Islais: here, we are lucky to have a local cinema; go see films on the big screen and in theaters!
