This year the Province of Prato has turned thirty. Established on April 16, 1992, the institution has had the opportunity for twenty years to demonstrate its usefulness, with the achievement of important results in terms of education, infrastructures, and the redevelopment of historic and representative sites of the territory. Among other works, we highlight the restorations of the Medici Stables of Poggio a Caiano in 2000, of the Rocca di Cerbaia in 2007, of the Villa Il Mulinaccio in 2008, of the Badia di Vaiano in 2013. To these are added important interventions for the building school, starting from the San Giusto school complex, up to the interventions currently underway for the redevelopment and renovation of the institutions, as well as social works such as the opening of the Employment Center and the numerous interventions for the construction and maintenance of the road network throughout the territory.
“The body suffered a sharp slowdown in 2014 due to the Delrio law – says the president Francesco Puggelli – but it has not entirely lost its usefulness. The work of recent years is the demonstration that an institution such as the Province is still indispensable for the management of some areas and that it has great potential that can be developed ”.
On the occasion of this anniversary, a calendar of initiatives was organized to tell the body, its history and future perspective, as well as to deepen some of the issues related to the role played by the Province. The scheduled appointments range from the presentation of books to thematic walks, from theater to news, and will all be held in the premises of the Province and in the Banci Buonamici Garden. The in-depth themes will be those of Equal opportunities and of Schoolwhich represent two of the main competences of the institution, but also that of the Tourismwhich although it is no longer the direct responsibility of the Province, is a transversal theme that involves all the municipalities of the territory, especially in the guise of slow and sustainable tourism.
The initiatives will end with a story of the institution’s thirty yearsstarting from the local news that has marked these three decades and with a confrontation that will involve the former presidents and mayors of the seven municipalities.
“The first provincial council was held on May 29, 1995,” adds the president. “Today this body can still play a crucial role in the development of important issues for our territory. These initiatives do not want to be the celebration of an anniversary as an end in itself, but a way to remember that the Province still exists and works daily on fundamental areas. But above all to underline that this is an institution open to dialogue with citizens, associations, organizations and the whole territory, for a common growth. I would like to underline that the entire calendar of initiatives was organized at no cost, thanks to the commitment of the local associations, which I thank ”.
