A total of seven films make up the Rafael Azcona Filmoteca’s program for the month of October, on its return to activity after the summer months, and with a special presence and prominence for Spanish cinema.

The General Director of Culture, Ana Zabalegui, accompanied by the programmer of the Filmoteca, Félix Abel de la Cruz, presented this morning a new program that will premiere on the 4th with the celebration of Spanish Cinema Day, materialized with the screening of the classic ‘Belle Époque’ by Rafael Azcona.

“We begin the season at the Rafael Azcona Filmoteca de La Rioja with the return, already full and from the beginning, to the health situation prior to the pandemic, and with a program for the coming months that will once again encourage an audience to participate. faithful to this space and its proposals on Tuesdays and Wednesdays of these winter months”, has valued the general director of Culture, Ana Zabalegui.

She has also announced the recovery this season of school sessions, “a core activity that mixes culture with education, consisting of morning sessions with school groups, and where programming and teaching material, school records, etc. are also developed. We believe that it is a good activity to develop knowledge and love of cinema”.

Likewise, the Filmoteca will also participate these next days, October 3 and 4, in the Meeting of Filmoteca Programmers in Santander, where it will also coordinate a table on management mechanics.

For his part, the programmer Félix Abel de la Cruz explained that “We started with a program based on three axes: the celebration of Spanish Cinema Day, chocolates and Qatayef, which are films that have won awards at festivals and have a limited run in commercial circuits, and have not been released in Logroño; and that this time have a predominant presence of films directed by women; and the new cycle of films forever, where we will enjoy and comment on those films that are eternal”.

The Filmoteca will celebrate the Day of Spanish Cinema on October 4, in order to recognize the role of filmmakers and professionals in the sector and their influence and importance in the cultural and social life of our country.

With this anniversary, the program will kick off with ‘Belle Époque’, one of the classics by Rafael Azcona from La Rioja; which will give way the next day to a tour of the films by the Cantabrian director Mario Camus, with ‘Mario Camus, according to the cinema’, directed by Sigfrid Monleón. This film, as a novelty, will be presented in person by its producers, Juan and Carlos Trueba.

After this start, the programming will continue with several tastings, the first of the Qatayef, a typical Arab sweet, on three occasions: on October 11, ‘Huda’s Salon’ will be broadcast, a Palestinian film awarded at the Seminci in Valladolid; on the 18th it will be the turn of the Lebanese ‘Costa brava, Lebanon’ directed by Mounia Akl and awarded in Seville, and on the 19th the Iranian ‘Ghasideyeh gave Sefid’ will take over, who also received recognition at the Seminci, in this case to its debut directors Maryam Moghadam and Behtash Sanaeeha.

The third tasting will arrive on October 25, the Norwegian ‘bonbon’ ‘Ninjababy’, by Yngvild Sve Flikke, awarded as the best comedy by EFA 2021; and on the 26th the program will close with the delicious French film ‘L’Heure D’été’, by Olivier Assayas and which has a cast led by Juliette Binoche.

All the tapes will be broadcast at the fixed time of 7:30 p.m., and with the reduced price of 2.5 euros per ticket (2 euros with a Youth Card), now on sale through the tickets.com platform.

General lines

The Film Library of La Rioja Rafael Azcona will maintain a recognizable dynamic in the new season with respect to the previous ones, and that “It is the one that allowed it to reach a large part of the population, remove the fear of many people who perhaps had a more marginal concept of the Filmoteca, and turn it into a cultural reference in the city, placing it as the fifth most important cultural activity in La Rioja, according to the index of the Spanish cultural observatory”, have indicated Ana Zabalegui and Félix Abel de la Cruz.

To this end, Unreleased Premieres will continue, tribute will continue to be paid to great authors and directors and cult films will be screened, now within the new cycle ‘Movies Forever’, with different collaborators, discovering cinematographies and realities from other countries.

Work will also be done to highlight the role of women in the cinema and in the industry, not always recognized, and the work of Rafael Azcona will continue to be exhibited and disseminated, not only in the film library, but also in agreements with film libraries from other Autonomous Communities.

Among the provisions are to maintain the presentations with casts of the films and subsequent debates, and extend the collaboration with local entities and associations with the aim that the Filmoteca be a meeting place and an active part of the society of Logroño and Rioja in which it participates. .
