On the occasion of the celebration of the International Day against Gender Violence, the Tomelloso City Council, through the Women’s Center, has scheduled a series of activities aimed at raising awareness and preventing this social scourge. On November 25, an institutional act will take place in the Plaza de España at 12:00.
The program, which is presented under the title “Raise your hand for the end of violence against women”, includes various awareness and prevention activities aimed at the educational community. The first of them, by Juan Villén, animator, storyteller, magician and actor, will tour the 14 schools in the city from November 14 to 24 with his stories and narratives to make 5th and 6th grade students reflect. .
Also aimed at schools, short films against gender violence will be screened on December 23 and 24 for 3rd and 4th ESO students and a screening has also been scheduled for the general population at 7:00 p.m. h. in the López Torres auditorium. The films have been selected by the platform for the promotion of the short format in Spain “CortoEspaña” which awards the prestigious “Fugaz Awards” every year.
The program also includes various training activities on equality, awareness and prevention of gender violence aimed at all audiences. On November 15 and 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The course “Detection and procedure in cases of gender-based violence” will be held at the Women’s Center, which will be taught by the FEMP-CLM and aimed at staff from the City Council, Civil Protection, Local Police, Security Forces and Bodies and associations .
As for health and wellness activities, four workshops have been scheduled. One on health and women, “Let’s make a good deal”, will be taught by the psychologist Mercedes Simón, on November 30 at 10:00. at the Women’s Center. There will be another one about free women of the project Calender Aimed at women over 50 years of age to work on self-esteem on November 22 and 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Women’s Center.
The next workshop will be on November 30 and December 14 and 21 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Women’s Center that will be taught by the psychologist Esther Mezcua. It will be an activity that combines theory with practice to control anxiety. In the last workshop, the problem of prostitution will be discussed through an awareness project for adolescents and their families about trafficking and sexual exploitation. It will be on November 29 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at CERES Foundation.
Several sports activities have also been scheduled, such as a self-defense course in collaboration with the Tomelloso Judo Club. It is a practical theoretical workshop on the different forms of violence against women and self-defense as a way of facing dangerous situations. It is aimed at women over 16 years of age and will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from November 21 on the tatami of the covered pavilion of the Sports City.
And on Sunday, November 27 from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. In this same pavilion, there will be a self-defense master class. Those interested who want to participate, may do so accompanied by their daughters and sons from 6 to 12 years old so that they can also start practicing sports in this discipline, with the aim of promoting equality between the sexes from the educational base.
With the idea of using Culture to make gender violence visible, there will also be theater in this program. On Friday, November 18 at 9:00 p.m. In the López Torres auditorium, the show “Ante elmirro” will be performed by the company Hisparchy. In addition to all these events, there will be an initiative in collaboration with the Tomelloso business, which throughout the month of November will distribute marketing to its clients to raise awareness and prevent gender violence.
