The National Defense College (CDN), which functions as a postgraduate center for the Honduran Armed Forces (AF.AA.), received the “Excellence” award in the institutional category for the year 2022, awarded by the Center for Studies Hemispheric “William J. Perry”, from the United States of America.
The award was presented at a special ceremony held in Washington, United States, it was awarded for the uninterrupted trajectory for 31 years of this postgraduate center in Defense and Security at the Latin American level and was received by its current rector, Colonel de Aviation Sergio Portillo Bustillo, who in his speech expressed the importance of knowledge of defense and security issues in the Western Hemisphere at a time when nations face new threats.
The Perry Center has maintained close cooperation with the National Defense College, developing seminars and conferences given to students and members of the Armed Forces for more than a decade, which has been intensified with recent training on topics such as governance in defense, defense policies, cyber defense and cyber security among others.
For the Armed Forces, this award represents one of the most significant achievements for the armed institution in the educational area, since it positions them as an entity that remains at the forefront in constantly updating the national and international reality, all of this framed in the mission entrusted through the constitutional mandate in article 289.
Three pioneering decades in defense and security
The CDN began its operations in 1991 and for three decades it remains a pioneer in defense and security, graduating to date 1,370 professionals, of which 700 belong to civil society representatives of different State institutions, Private Enterprise and 370 soldiers, including not only officers from Honduras but also from friendly countries such as the Republic of China, Taiwan, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Mexico, which encourages the exchange of ideas and critical thinking from different regions of the world.
As part of its continuous improvement and educational innovation, this year the first promotion of the Diploma in Defense and National Security began in its virtual modality, as well as work on other educational programs and different development modalities in the execution of these.
The CDN is currently executing the eighth promotion of the Specialty in Defense and Security
National that has 27 students among select civilian personnel from the different State institutions, military and National Police, who will soon be traveling to the United States as part of their external study tour that is carried out every year with the purpose of knowing the operation through exhibitions of institutions such as the Pentagon, Inter-American Defense Board, Inter-American Defense College, Defense University, Organization of American States and of course the William J. Perry Center. (XM)
