“Sustainable development for a better world” is the title with which Arenas International School will celebrate its XXVI Olympiad until June 16. A nod to the 17 international goals agreed in 2015 by world leaders to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure peace and prosperity for all; and that at Colegio Arenas Internacional we work at all educational stages to contribute to creating a better world.
This Saturday, June 4, its inauguration took place, with the presence of the families. The students, from Infant to Primary, dressed in wonderful costumes made by teachers and parents, under the coordination of the designer Manuel Camejo, have once again offered a great show to those present. And once again it has been possible thanks to the collaborative work of the teaching and non-teaching staff, headed by the Department of Physical Education; administrators, students and families.
The event was chaired by the General Director of Colegio Arenas, Arenas Atlántico and Arenas Internacional, Alberto Rodríguez. Along with him, the Vice President of the Cabildo de Lanzarote Marcos Antonio Bergaz Villalba; the Mayor of Teguise Oswaldo Betancort and his Councilor for Education Francisco Javier Díaz. Also occupying the presidential table were the Director of Colegio Arenas Internacional, Delfina Rodríguez; Managing Director Jaime Rodríguez; the deputy director of the José Paz Center and the town crier and mother of students Cristina León Quintana.
The opening was in charge of Delfina Rodríguez, who thanked her for being able to return to “normality” and share this show with those present; She made a tour of the main milestones of the School during the last year, such as successfully passing the renewal visit of the International Baccalaureate Continuum; and advanced some of the new projects for the next course, such as the start-up of the STEM Classroom.
Next, the Town Crier offered a speech full of emotion in which she explained the values of the School and what it had given them, through the eyes and experiences of her children. Some very close words that ended with a beautiful poem created by her husband for this occasion. Subsequently, she ushered in the eagerly awaited show.
Through gymnastics, dance, dance, dramatization and choreography in which all the students of the Center participate, from 1 Year Infants to Baccalaureate, it was possible to enjoy a show in which the School as ECOCENTRO and the The only one in Lanzarote with an Environmental Management Certificate, once again highlighted its commitment to environmental education in which small actions are carried out that contribute to making the 17 global actions agreed by the UN in 2015 to achieve a better world a reality.
At the end of the performance, the entrance of the students carrying the Olympic Torch took place, and the subsequent lighting of the cauldron whose honor fell this year to the 2nd ESO student, Alexia Reyes Tomás.
