Several new features are on the program for this 2022 school year in Toulouse schools. Among them: a new school, the revegetation of certain playgrounds and experiments for more safety.
Nearly 34,000 students are enrolled in the 209 public schools in the Pink City for this 2022-2023 school year. Some novelties await the little Toulouse residents next September 1. The town hall presented them at a press conference on August 24.
Opening of a new school at the start of the school year
First of all, note the opening of a new establishment. This is the Jules-Géraud Saliège school group. Located in the Lalande district, it will have a capacity of 10 kindergarten and 14 elementary classes and will welcome the pupils of the temporary school installed in the impasse Jean Alphand.
This new school just opened, the City will launch the construction of other schools. Four will actually be under construction at the start of the school year: the Barigoude school groups (Saint-Martin du Touch), Dortis (Lalande), Saint-Simon (Saint-Simon) and the Aubrac kindergarten (La Salade).
Work in several schools in Toulouse
In addition to these new schools, the town hall is rehabilitating or extending old ones. This year, the Olympe de Gouges school group, in the Croix-Bénite district, took advantage of it. In detail, the school will havea new catering centre, a games room and premises for staff from the start of the fall.
The City of Toulouse also carried out maintenance, security, building improvement and development work throughout the summer in anticipation of the start of the new school year in certain establishments. This was particularly the case at the Lesseps, Les Vergers, Ronsard, Léo Lagrange and Oustalous schools.
Revegetation of certain playgrounds
Likewise, the municipality has transformed and revegetated several playgrounds this summer. Pupils from the Saouzelong, Anatole France, Paul Bert, Bastide 2 and Alfred de Musset schools will thus be able to discover new trees and landscaping. The objective of these “Oasis courtyards”: to create shade and refresh the air.
Still in an ecological transition approach, two experiments will be launched on the management of bio-waste: one on collection and composting by an external service provider in the La Juncasse and Bénézet nursery schools, the other on on-site composting in Mailhos kindergarten and La Terrasse elementary school.
Experiments for more safety
For more safety around schools, the town hall will also carry out new experiments at the start of the school year. Beacons will thus be placed to protect the cycle paths from illegal parking around four schools: Les Oustalous, Bonnefoy, Saint-Exupère and Bécanne.
School streets will also see the light of day near four establishments : Falguière, Patte d’Oie, Etienne Billières and Calas-Dupont. For information, school streets are public roads leading to the entrance of a school where adapted facilities prohibit the access of motorized vehicles.
