Violent beating and brawl on leaving school: “Terrified children, more surveillance is needed”

UDINE – One fight in front of the elementary school, which frightened the children who witnessed it, and created alarm among the parents. The theater is once again the area of Borgo Stazione that often, unfortunately, leaps to the headlines: this time, the criticality has emerged in via Dante Alighieri, where the homonymous school and the Garzoni with Montessori address are located. The incident took place last Tuesday, November 8, just after leaving the lessons of the Dante school, around four in the afternoon, which alarmed families even more. “In the afternoon, the parents tell -, a serious episode took place, during which a group of people was involved in a beating, degenerated into a fight and ended only after the intervention of the police. The events took place in the area in front of the plexus, just as the pupils were leaving: they witnessed the beating a boy, to the involvement of many people in a fight, to the arrival of law enforcement officers with loud sirens; some children have broken out at to cryeveryone was frightened: the situation was objectively alarming and dangerous and appears even more disturbing as it occurred, in the center, near a primary school, on a normal Tuesday afternoon ».

THE REQUEST
Parents, restless and worried, therefore ask for more surveillance in the area, at least during the hours of entry and exit of children from the school complex. As if that were not enough, other episodes of decay are also reported in the area: from the discovery of one syringe dirty in the small park near the school where the children also go to play, in the presence of human feces in the open bins, the use of the walls of the school itself as urinal occasional. Also to safeguard the serenity of the children, therefore, families are asking for a greater protection. It is not the first time that uncomfortable situations have been reported in the area adjacent to the school: only a few months ago, in May, a homeless couple had mounted a tent right in the green area; the problem, even on that occasion, had mainly concerned the hygienic conditions, given that for their own needs they used the lawn, as it seems widespread, according to what the parents say, the habit of the visitors of the area to exploit the walls to pee and hide bags with their stuff in bushes or trees.

HOT ZONE
The critical issues of Borgo Stazione, on the other hand, are under the attention of the authorities: after yet another episode of a fight (during which a local police officer was also injured), controls have increased further, with the arrival of an army truck that goes back and forth between there and the former Cavarzerani barracks in via Cividale, as a deterrent. The police are now checking the neighborhood almost daily, as does the local police who, by the will of the Fontanini administration, have also opened a permanent garrison with the aim of putting a stop to the drug dealing, but also to those behaviors that make the area unlivable and frighten the residents (from nocturnal noises, to episodes of harassing drunkenness, to bivouacs on the street). Not to mention the hundreds of thousands of euros invested to upgrade the video surveillance system. Yet, all the activities put in place seem never to be enough, to restore dignity to that area not so far from the center and which would perhaps also need other paths to return to being part of the city fabric.
